Our smooth sandstone paving slabs bring a clean, contemporary edge to any outdoor space. We saw and hone every slab to a refined finish — precise, flat, and consistent. Choose from four elegant colours. Use them outdoors on patios, paths, and driveways, or indoors to create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Every slab ships free, with VAT included in the price.
Standard Indian sandstone paving has a riven surface — naturally textured and uneven. It suits traditional and rustic garden styles perfectly. Our smooth sandstone paving slabs take a very different approach. We machine-saw all six sides of each slab, then hone the top surface. The result is a flat, refined finish with clean, straight edges and a subtle sheen. It suits modern gardens, contemporary home extensions, and minimalist design schemes.
The sawn edges also allow for tighter joints between slabs. That gives your finished patio a sleek, precise look that riven stone simply cannot match. If you want the warmth of natural sandstone with the clean lines of porcelain, our smooth sandstone range delivers exactly that.
Every slab in our smooth sandstone range undergoes a two-stage finishing process. First, we machine-saw the stone on all six sides. This creates straight, uniform edges and a consistent thickness throughout. Second, we hone the top surface. Honing removes the saw marks and lightly polishes the stone, bringing out its natural colour and producing a smooth, non-slip finish. The chamfered edges on every slab add structural robustness and a refined, professional appearance to the finished surface.
Our smooth sandstone paving slabs work equally well inside and outside. The consistent sawn finish and uniform thickness make them straightforward to lay across both interior floors and exterior terraces. Use the same slab in your kitchen or living space and on the patio beyond. The result is a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living — one of the most desirable features of any contemporary home extension or garden project.
The non-slip honed surface is safe underfoot when wet, making it a practical choice for outdoor use in the UK climate. Indoors, the semi-polished finish catches the light beautifully.
We offer our smooth sandstone paving slabs in four carefully selected colours. Each one suits a different design palette:

Sawn means the stone has been machine-cut on all six sides, producing straight, uniform edges and a consistent thickness throughout. Honed means the top surface has then been lightly polished to remove saw marks, creating a smooth, flat finish with a subtle sheen. Together, sawn and honed produces the clean, contemporary look that makes this range so popular for modern garden and interior schemes.
Riven sandstone has a naturally textured, uneven surface — split along natural fault lines for an organic, traditional appearance. Smooth (sawn and honed) sandstone has a flat, uniform surface with clean edges and a subtle sheen. Riven suits rustic, cottage, and traditional styles. Smooth suits contemporary, minimalist, and modern indoor-outdoor schemes.
The honed surface of smooth sandstone provides good grip in dry conditions. In wet conditions, the surface offers less natural grip than riven sandstone. We recommend using our smooth sandstone on patios, terraces, and paths where it will not be subject to running water or steep gradients. Applying a sealer with an anti-slip additive increases grip in wet conditions.
Yes — we recommend sealing smooth sandstone paving after installation. The honing process opens the stone’s pores slightly, making it more susceptible to staining than untreated riven sandstone. A quality impregnating sealer protects against water, oil, and staining without altering the refined surface finish. Seal once after laying and reseal every two to three years.
