Indian sandstone cobbles are small, individually cut blocks of natural sandstone. They typically measure around 100x100mm and suit a broad range of garden applications. You may also see them described as cobble setts, garden setts, or paving setts — all refer to the same product. Unlike large paving slabs, cobbles work at a smaller scale. They create definition, texture, and visual interest in the spaces between and around larger paved areas.
Indian sandstone is the ideal material for cobbles. It is hard-wearing, naturally slip-resistant, and handles British weather with ease. The riven surface of each cobble gives it a genuine, handcrafted character that manufactured alternatives simply cannot replicate.
Indian sandstone cobbles suit both modern and traditional settings. Here are six of the most popular applications:

Indian sandstone cobbles work across a wide range of design styles. Grey cobbles complement the clean lines and neutral palettes of contemporary gardens. Multi Colour cobbles bring warmth and character to more traditional or rustic schemes. Both options hold their own as standalone features or as part of a larger paving project. Whichever style your garden follows, our cobbles add the finishing detail that pulls the whole scheme together.
We hand-select every cobble in our range for colour, consistency, and quality. Our team visits quarries and production facilities in India on a regular basis. We inspect working conditions and quality standards in person every time. Only cobbles that meet our strict criteria make it into the range. Buy from Lesta Paving and invest in stone you can trust.

Our Indian sandstone cobbles are 100x100mm — the most common cobble size in the UK. This compact format suits patio edging, garden pathways, feature areas, and driveway borders. The 100x100mm size also allows for curved edging and decorative patterns that larger format setts cannot easily achieve.
Cobbles are typically smaller and squarer — usually 100x100mm. Setts are usually rectangular — most commonly 200x100mm in the UK. Cobbles suit decorative features, curved edging, and traditional pathways. Setts suit straight-run driveway edging and formal borders where a more linear pattern is preferred. Our cobbles are 100x100mm and work across all decorative applications.
At 100x100mm, you need approximately 100 cobbles per m², allowing for 10mm joints. For a border or edging run, calculate the length of your border in metres and multiply by the number of rows wide. Always order 10% extra to account for cuts, breakages, and future repairs. Call our team on 0116 380 0545 and we will help you calculate the right quantity.
Prepare a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base of at least 100mm, then lay each cobble on a full mortar bed. Set the cobbles at a consistent level, leaving 8–10mm joints. Fill joints with a 3:1 sand-cement mortar or a resin jointing compound once the mortar bed cures. For edging runs, use a string line to keep the border straight and level throughout.
